There's about 4-5 main baby stores/chains you can visit to view the gear, test it out and get advice. From there, it can become an extensive online search to price match if you wish to buy from another supplier. Most of the main gear such as strollers are price fixed by the manufacturer and only placed on offer when the manufacturer releases a sale. Make sure you're clear on the stores warranty and returns policies especially when it comes to the big ticket items. Warranties usually kick in upon purchase, so I would recommend waiting until the last 1-2 months before collecting things like strollers as they do take a beating and you may well be needing your warranty towards the end of the warranty time frame so every week counts. Also safety gear such as car seats and strollers cannot be returned at all as the integrity of the item is questionable once it leaves the shop, so make sure you are 100% happy with whichever one you decide on and do your research first to avoid a costly regret. Stores vary at this point in their loyalty programs, price matching, information and additional services offered such as installing the car seat for you or building the stroller while you wait. So be sure to inquire about anything of particular importance to your family. Finally, cross border shopping can provide better deals on some items so a weekend away to stock the nursery could be worthwhile. For example; we picked up a crib from the same manufacturer with a similar style for about half the price from their Walmart line of furniture. Amazon.com can have more variety and lower prices than their .ca counterpart, so if you have the time, this could save you hundreds of $$, all the more to spend on super cute baby clothes that will last a couple of months!
